What Is a Multi-Room Audio and Video System?

A multi-room audio system, sometimes called whole-house audio, lets you play music in one room or every room at once. You can play the same track everywhere or something different in each space, all controlled from your phone, tablet, wall-mounted control pad or voice.

A multi-room video system does the same for your TVs. It lets you watch your usual sources, such as satellite, streaming or Blu-ray, in more than one room. The two can be installed together as one integrated system.

Benefits of Multi-Room Audio and Video

  • Music in every room: play the same or different music in different rooms, with volume set by room or by group
  • Simple control: use your smartphone, tablet, voice or wall-mounted control pads
  • All your music in one place: stream Spotify, Apple Music, internet radio, podcasts and your own library
  • Better TV sound: add a soundbar or full surround sound to any room
  • Room to grow: start with one or two rooms and add more whenever you like

Multi-Room Audio Systems We Install

Sonos Wireless Multi-Room Systems

Sonos is the simplest way to add multi-room audio to an existing home. The speakers connect over your Wi-Fi, so there’s no need to rewire, and everything is controlled from the Sonos app.

We choose the right speaker for each room and tune each one to its space using Trueplay.

Sonos speakers we commonly install include:

  • Sonos Era 100: a compact stereo speaker for kitchens, bedrooms and home offices
  • Sonos Era 300: immersive Dolby Atmos sound for living rooms, or as rear speakers in a surround system
  • Sonos Five: a high-fidelity speaker for large, open-plan rooms and serious music listening
  • Sonos Move 2 and Roam 2: portable, weather-resistant speakers for the garden and terrace
  • Sonos Sub Mini and Sub 4: wireless subwoofers for deeper bass

All systems are thoroughly tested and a demonstration on how it works is given to you before we leave to ensure you’re up and running and ready to go.

Sonos Soundbars for TV and Home Cinema

Sonos soundbars make TV sound better and become part of your multi-room system, so you can play music through them when the TV is off. We fit the Sonos Arc Ultra for premium Dolby Atmos, the Beam (Gen 2) for mid-sized rooms and the Ray for compact spaces. We can add a subwoofer and a pair of Era 300 speakers to make full surround sound.

Wired and Hi-Fi Quality Multi-Room Systems

For larger homes, new builds and renovations, or if you’d rather not see the speakers at all, we install wired systems with in-ceiling, in-wall and outdoor speakers driven from a central amplifier. We supply high-quality speakers from Yamaha, Canton, KEF and Linn. We can also use a Sonos Amp or Port to bring in-ceiling speakers and your existing hi-fi into the Sonos app.

Multi-Room Video: TVs in Every Room

We fit and wall-mount TVs in multiple rooms and connect them to your aerial or satellite system, so everyone can watch what they want without fighting over one set of equipment. Because we also install TV aerials, satellite systems and home networks, we make sure every room has the signal and Wi-Fi a multi-room system needs to run reliably.

Multi-Room Audio and Video FAQs

How much does multi-room audio installation cost in Hampshire?

The cost depends on how many rooms you want to cover, whether you choose wireless or wired speakers, and how much cabling is involved. A small wireless Sonos setup costs far less than a whole-house wired system. We visit your home, agree what you need and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Not for wireless systems such as Sonos, which connect over your home Wi-Fi and only need power. Ceiling and in-wall speakers need speaker cable, which we route as neatly as possible. Either way, strong Wi-Fi matters, so we check your network during the survey.

Wireless systems are quick to install, easy to expand and controlled from an app. Wired systems place speakers out of sight in ceilings or walls and are driven by a central amplifier, which suits new builds, renovations and larger homes. Many homes use a mix of both.

Yes. Sonos and other systems can be controlled from a smartphone or tablet app. We can also fit wall-mounted control pads so family and guests can change the music without a phone, and many systems support voice control too.

Yes. A multi-room system can start with one or two rooms and grow over time. Sonos speakers, for example, can be added one at a time and grouped in the app. We plan your system so extra rooms are easy to add later.
